Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, chaired a high-level meeting focused on the implementation of the National Identification System and its integration with essential public services used by citizens — a move aimed at ending over 34 years of identity-related challenges for Somali citizens.
Prime Minister Hamza emphasized that the adoption of digital identification represents a transformative opportunity, serving as a foundation for Somalia’s development goals across economic, political, and security sectors. He stated that this shift positions Somalia to become a model of progress both in the region and globally.
He also confirmed that the legal frameworks and necessary guidelines to protect citizens’ data have been established. The government is committed to ensuring nationwide registration and issuing IDs to all citizens. The Prime Minister instructed all government institutions and non-governmental service providers to link their services to the National ID to enhance efficiency and accountability.
