NEW YORK, United Nations – The Islamic Republic of Pakistan has issued a forceful condemnation of Israeli diplomatic maneuvers in the Horn of Africa, expressing “strong opposition” to any interference in the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Pakistani delegation delivered a stern rejection of what it termed ambitions to undermine the unity of the Somali nation.
During the urgent open briefing convened to address the regional crisis, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, H.E. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, aligned Islamabad’s position with the “A3 Plus” bloc and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The delegation characterized the recognition of the Somaliland region as a “reckless provocation” devoid of any international legal basis. Pakistan warned that legitimizing separatist entities violates the United Nations Charter and sets a destabilizing precedent for the entire Muslim world.
The Pakistani delegation emphasized that the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia is sacrosanct. They argued that external actors harboring “ambitions to undermine the unity” of the state are engaging in a dangerous geopolitical game that threatens peace in the strategic Red Sea corridor. Islamabad made it clear that it recognizes only one Somalia and views the preservation of its borders as essential for regional security.
This intervention highlights the deep historical and fraternal bonds between Pakistan and Somalia. By taking a resolute stand at the Security Council, Pakistan reinforced the diplomatic isolation of the recognition bid, ensuring that the voice of the Muslim world remains united in defense of Mogadishu’s sovereignty. The delegation pledged continuing diplomatic support to the Federal Government as it safeguards its independence against foreign intrusion.
