Mogadishu, – In a significant development, the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, Daud Aweys Jama, disclosed the details of a recent intense battle that unfolded in the Shabeelow district of Mudug region in Galmudug state.
Minister Daud Aweys Jama revealed that more than 100 militants belonging to the Khawarij extremist group met their demise, while many others sustained injuries during the fierce confrontation. The operation was a collaborative effort involving government forces, Galmudug forces, and local militias.
The Khawarij had sought refuge in the dense forests of Mudug region, where they aimed to establish a stronghold. However, the combined forces launched a relentless offensive, successfully dislodging the Khawarij militants from their intended sanctuary.
Weapons were seized from the retreating Khawarij as they attempted to escape the encircling government and local forces. The operation also extended into the thick forests of Mahaday district, where the Khawarij found themselves cornered without any external assistance.
Over the past two months, the Khawarij have sustained heavy losses as national forces and local militias have reclaimed multiple areas previously subjected to their oppressive rule. These extremists have been responsible for inflicting suffering upon the Somali population through acts of violence, including killings and maimings.
The recent operation marks a significant blow to the Khawarij’s ambitions in the region, reinforcing the commitment of the Somali government and its allies to maintain peace and security. The collaboration between government forces and local heroes exemplifies the resolve to protect the Somali people from the threat posed by extremist groups.
