Naivasha, Kenya (SONNA) – The Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbalolshe), participated in the 2nd Mashariki Cooperation Conference in Naivasha, Kenya. The high-level forum brought together over 60 intelligence and security agencies from across Africa and beyond to discuss regional security challenges and enhance cooperation.
The Mashariki Cooperation Conference has rapidly emerged as a crucial platform for intelligence-sharing and collaboration in counterterrorism efforts. This year’s discussions focused on combating extremist groups, including Al-Shabaab and ISIS, which remain significant threats in East Africa.
As Somalia’s primary intelligence body, NISA plays a vital role in the fight against terrorism, working closely with regional and international partners to dismantle militant networks. Director Ali’s attendance underscores Somalia’s commitment to strengthening regional security ties and addressing shared threats.
The conference also highlighted the growing importance of intelligence-sharing frameworks in preventing cross-border terrorism and organized crime. With security challenges evolving across the continent, forums like Mashariki provide a critical space for strategizing and coordination.
Somalia continues to face persistent threats from Al-Shabaab, while ISIS-affiliated groups have also carried out attacks in the region. NISA’s engagement in such high-level meetings signals a proactive approach to securing regional stability.
