Mogadishu, SONNA — The National Consultative Council (NCC), chaired by H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, concluded its two-day meeting in Mogadishu with key decisions that advance Somalia’s federal state-building process.
In a significant resolution, the Council tasked the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation with developing a detailed legal assessment and proposal regarding the status of Jubaland. The objective is to ensure compliance with Somalia’s Provisional Constitution and national legal frameworks, paving the way for a legitimate and constitutional federal structure in the region.
Equally notable, the Council unanimously recognized SSC-Khaatumo as a Federal Member State of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The Council emphasized the importance of finalizing the administration’s establishment through the completion of its foundational conference, in accordance with constitutional procedures.
To that end, the Council urged the Federal Government—particularly the Ministry of Interior—to work in close collaboration with SSC-Khaatumo leadership to organize and conclude the planned conference. This step is seen as essential for institutionalizing SSC-Khaatumo’s federal status and integrating it effectively into Somalia’s governance framework.
These resolutions reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive dialogue, constitutional governance, and the progressive realization of Somalia’s federal system.
