MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, today received a significant donation of advanced media equipment from the Republic of Türkiye.

The equipment was formally handed over by the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Alper AKTAŞ, in a ceremony held in Mogadishu on October 26, 2025.

This contribution, which includes modern cameras and sophisticated live broadcast systems, is part of an existing bilateral agreement between Somalia and Türkiye focused on the development of Somalia’s national media. The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is the implementing body for the agreement on behalf of the Turkish government. TIKA’s Somalia Coordinator, Mr. Zafer Eski, was also present at the handover event.

The state-of-the-art equipment is designated to strengthen and enhance the various departments of the National Media, providing a crucial boost to the government’s communication and public broadcasting capabilities.

Minister Daud Aweis Jama extended his gratitude to the government of Türkiye and TIKA for their consistent and unwavering support to the Federal Government of Somalia, particularly in bolstering the National Media. The Minister highlighted that this donation is part of a continuous cooperative program between the two nations aimed at developing and professionalizing the media sector.

Minister Aweis affirmed that Somalia will leverage this new technology to advance critical national agendas. These include state-building initiatives, enhancing public accountability of government institutions, supporting the ongoing campaign against the Khawarij, and facilitating coverage of the historic national elections expected to take place soon.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Alper AKTAŞ stated that the brotherly relationship between Somalia and Türkiye is deep and multifaceted. He emphasized that the two countries are working closely to elevate cooperation in the information sector, including the exchange of journalistic knowledge and media strategies.

For his part, TIKA Coordinator Mr. Zafer Eski noted that this equipment will play a significant role in improving the quality of Somali media. He reaffirmed TIKA’s commitment to contributing to the training, equipping, and overall modernization of Somalia’s National Media.

The event concluded with a display of the newly delivered equipment, as officials from both the Ministry of Information and the Turkish agencies pledged to further strengthen the friendly and cooperative partnership between the two countries.
