In a heartfelt and emotional display of gratitude, local heroes who took up arms against the Khawaarij group and fought alongside the national army against Al-Shabaab were warmly received at the airport after being brought back to their homeland from the UAE. These brave individuals had received medical treatments for the injuries they sustained during their selfless and heroic fight against the extremist organization.

Amidst a vibrant and colorful reception at the airport, several distinguished figures were present to honor the returning fighters. Members of Parliament, the chairlady of the women organization, traditional elders, and other officials gathered to express their admiration and appreciation for the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by these individuals.

During an interview conducted by SONNA, one of the returnees, Abbas Mohamud Luunge, who had lost both his legs during the liberation of Mashid Ali Gaduud in Middle Shabelle, shared his unwavering determination to continue the fight against Al-Shabaab in any way possible. His resolute spirit echoed the sentiments expressed by other returnees who were equally eager to contribute to the ongoing efforts to rid their country of the extremist threat.

Addressing the returnees, the chairlady of the women organization delivered a heartfelt speech, praising them for their extraordinary bravery and unwavering commitment to eliminate the scourge of Al-Shabaab. She emphasized the significant role they played in safeguarding the community and ensuring a safer future for all citizens.

Parliamentarian Abdirahman Mohamed Sheekh also took the stage during the welcome event, commending the fighters for their exceptional bravery and acknowledging the immense sacrifices they had made. He assured the returnees of the government’s unwavering support in their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The reception at the airport served as a powerful reminder of the collective strength and resilience of the Somali people in the face of adversity. It underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in the ongoing battle against extremism, with the returnees serving as a living testament to the indomitable spirit of the nation.

As the nation continues its efforts to counter Al-Shabaab, the return of these valiant fighters serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to stand up against extremism and contributing to the relentless pursuit of peace and stability in Somalia. Their sacrifice and determination will undoubtedly serve as a source of motivation for future generations, as the nation moves forward in its fight against terrorism.

The government and the people of Somalia express their deepest gratitude to these heroes and reaffirm their commitment to supporting their physical and psychological recovery, as well as their continued efforts in the fight against Al-Shabaab. Their dedication and bravery will forever be etched in the nation’s history as a symbol of resilience and courage.
