Washington, (SONNA) – The Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have successfully concluded in Washington, D.C., with the participation of Somalia’s Federal Minister of Finance, H.E. Biixi Imaan Cige, who led the Somali delegation representing the Federal Government.
During their stay in Washington, the Somali delegation actively engaged in all key sessions of the IMF and World Bank meetings. In addition, the delegation successfully held bilateral talks with representatives from nearly six countries, discussions that were crucial to advancing Somalia’s ongoing economic reform efforts.
While in Washington, Minister Biixi Imaan Cige also formally assumed the Chairmanship of the Finance Ministers’ Forum of the Horn of Africa Cooperation, a position Somalia will hold for the next two years.
Somalia continues to hold a position of high regard at IMF and World Bank gatherings, with international financial institutions recognizing Somalia as a model for economic reform and resilience, particularly in light of the country’s successful debt relief process and the substantial progress achieved in financial reforms over the past three years.
