MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Health of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Ali Haji Adan Abubakar, conducted a compassionate visit to the Erdoğan Hospital (Ex-Digfeer) last night to assess the condition of a Somali family severely affected by a recent domestic fire. During the visit, the Minister announced that the critically injured patients are scheduled to be airlifted to the Arab Republic of Egypt this coming Sunday to receive specialized medical treatment.
Accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Technology, Mr. Hussein Ahmed Ulusow, the delegation inspected the wards where eight survivors are currently fighting for their recovery. The officials engaged with the attending physicians and medical staff to understand the specific clinical needs of the victims, who were among twelve individuals present in the residence in the Howlwadaag District when the blaze erupted.
The tragic incident, which occurred on the third of this month, resulted in the heartbreaking loss of a pregnant woman. According to Mr. Mohamed Ashraf, the Deputy Manager of the hospital, eleven other individuals sustained varying degrees of burn injuries, ranging from severe to minor, requiring immediate and intensive medical intervention.
Speaking directly to the victims and their families, Minister Dr. Ali Haji Adan Abubakar offered reassurance that the Federal Government is fully committed to their recovery. He confirmed that logistics have been finalized for the patients to be transferred to Egypt on Sunday, where they will undergo advanced medical procedures and rehabilitation that are necessary for their specific injuries.
This initiative highlights the Ministry of Health’s dedicated efforts to respond swiftly to national emergencies and disasters. It reflects the government’s broader mandate to prioritize the safety and well-being of Somali citizens by ensuring access to critical healthcare services, involving international cooperation when required to save lives.
