Dhusamareb (SONNA): The President of Galmudug State, H.E. Ahmed Abdi Karie (Qoor Qoor), has congratulated the people of Mogadishu for turning out peacefully, calmly, and in large numbers to participate in the local council elections for the districts of the Benadir Region.
President Karie praised the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) and the national security agencies for responsibly carrying out their duties and ensuring that the elections were conducted in a safe and orderly manner. He described the successful holding of the vote as a historic achievement for the Somali nation.
In his remarks, President Ahmed Abdi Karie also commended the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, for his historic decision and sustained efforts that enabled the people of the capital to elect their local council representatives through direct voting for the first time in 60 years.
He concluded by calling on the people of Galmudug to prepare for upcoming elections, encouraging them to exercise their democratic right by voting for their leaders.
