Mogadishu, SONNA – At the National Workshop on the Accession Process to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes held in Mogadishu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, addressed the challenges arising from the mismanagement of transboundary water resources.
The workshop focused on the critical role of water in sustaining life and the need for cooperative management of shared water resources. FM Fiqi pointed out that inadequate management of these resources can lead to security risks and place strain on relations between neighboring countries.
Participants at the workshop, including policymakers, experts, and stakeholders, reviewed measures to promote sustainable and equitable access to water. The discussions examined strategies to prevent conflicts and ensure that shared water resources are managed effectively under the framework of the Convention.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with international partners and regional governments to develop and implement policies that enhance cooperation on water resource management. These efforts aim to safeguard national security and promote stability by addressing the challenges posed by water scarcity and mismanagement.
