Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing
Mogadishu, Friday, 13th June, 2025

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud paid a patrol visit to the “Oruc Reis” vessel, which was conducting oil exploration activities in the country, following the official completion of the seabed oil exploration survey off Somalia’s coasts.

2- The Somali Council of Ministers, during its weekly session, discussed security issues and approved the Regulatory Act of the Marine Communications Cables to ensure the safety of the country’s communications.

3- The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mr. Hassan Moallim, who is also the Chairperson of the Preparatory Committee for the Consultative Conference called by the President of the Federal Republic, announced that invitations to the conference had been sent to all relevant officials.

4- The Speaker of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, Mr. Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, returned to the country after a working trip to Russia.

5- The Minister of Interior, Federalism, and Reconciliation, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), held a meeting in Mogadishu with the Special UN Envoy for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan.

6- The Somali government participated in the Ministerial-level Coordination Meeting on implementing FOCAC resolutions, held in Changsha, Hunan Province, China.
7- Officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy attended the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in France, focusing on global ocean development.

8- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held an encouraging meeting with Somali students studying in Changsha, China.

9- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali held a fruitful meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, Mr. Musalia Mudavadi, during the FOCAC conference held in China.

10- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met with China’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Wang Yi, in Changsha, China.

11- The Somali government extended condolences to the government and people of India following the plane crash involving Air India in Ahmedabad, India, which resulted in many fatalities.

12- The Governor of Benadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu H.E. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), delivered a medical aid package to the Local Defense Forces (Macawisleyda) stationed in Hiiraan region under the HirShabelle Federal Member State.

13- The Chairperson of the Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, attended an international conference in Geneva on disaster risk reduction.

14- The Governor of Benadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu H.E. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab) has officially inaugurated the national final exams for middle schools, with a total of 41,639 students sitting for the exams this year.

15- The Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, H.E. Mukhtar Robow Ali, stated that Somalia ranked fourth among countries that served Hajj pilgrims well this year.

16- The Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, H.E. Mukhtar Robow Ali met with the Head of Religious Affairs of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbash, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

17- The Minister of Education, Heritage and Higher Education Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, participated in the High-Level Meeting of the International Cooperation for Education in Paris, discussing plans for the next five years (2026–2030).

18- The President of the Galmudug Federal Member State, Ahmed Abdi Kariye conducted a peace visit to Gelinsoor district in Galgudud region, where he announced a reconciliation initiative to resolve internal conflicts and bring peace among warring clans.

19- The Minister of Defense, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi told national media that the Kharijites Al Shabab are currently fragmented, confused, and in disarray.

20- The Committee for the Preparation of the Independence Week celebrations held meetings to accelerate preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
21- The Minister of Finance, Mr. Bihi Iman Ige, inaugurated a workshop in Mogadishu focused on economic development and regional trade integration among Horn of Africa countries.
22- Planned operations by NISA (National Intelligence and Security Agency) in the Ceel Hareeri area of HirShabelle State, resulted in the killing of over 40 insurgents affiliated with the Kharijites Al Shabab.

23- Nur Abdi Roble aka Nunule, who was the representative of the Kharijites Al Shabab for HirShabelle and Galmudug states, along with Jeylaani, who led the militias, were killed in Ceel Hareeri area in HirShabelle State.

24- The Somali National Army, in collaboration with international allies, killed 13 members of the Kharijites Al Shabab following an operation in Ceel Baraf area, in HirShabelle State.

25- The Ministry of Information organized a workshop on adapting digital media transformation, involving journalists from various media outlets across the country.

26- The Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, held a meeting in Turkey with the head of the Turkish Supreme Election Council, Ahmet Yener.

27- The Ministry of Information participated in the Cultural Committee meeting of the East African Community (EAC), addressing cultural issues and others.

28- The British government praised Somalia for succeeding in the tracking and management of firearms.
