Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing
Mogadishu, Friday, 30th May, 2025

1- His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab as the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir Province.

2- His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has received at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, along with other well-known players from the African continent.

3- The Cabinet held its weekly meeting and discussed the overall security situation in the country and the successes achieved through operations led by the Somali National Army and local forces to liberate areas from the Kharijites militants.

4- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre sent condolences to the families, relatives, and the entire Somali nation on the passing of Brig. General Mohamed Said Hersi Morgan, who previously served as the Minister of Defense of Somalia.

5- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre participated in the viewing of a historic friendly match between legendary former national team players and African stars, including Samuel Eto’o, Jay-Jay Okocha, and Emmanuel Adebayor.

6- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre appointed a committee comprising ministers and Banadir regional administration officials to work on commemorating Somalia’s Independence Week.

7- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre visited the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, emphasizing that the ministry exemplifies the unity between the Somali people and government in rebuilding and developing state institutions.

8- Deputy Prime Minister Jibriil Abdirashid Haji has participated in an event launching the Somalia Food and Agriculture Legalization Agency (SARIS).

9- Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development Mahamoud Abdirahman Sheikh Faarax inaugurated the second publication of Somalia’s Economic Outlook report.

10- Minister of Defense Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, discussing the progress of the African Union Mission Support and Stabilization in Somalia (AMISOM).

11- Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA),Mahamoud Mohammed Abdulle, met with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu, in Mogadishu.

12- Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Cali (Sanbaloolshe), and the Commander of the Somali Land Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, held meetings with elders from Tardo district in Hiiraan region, discussing efforts to accelerate military operations.

13- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali has received copies of credentials from the British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King.

14- Minister of Defense Ahmed Moalim Fiqi with the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Dacco Coppi, and discussed cooperation in defense and security matters between the two countries.

15- Defence Minister, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has chaired the monthly meeting of the Technical Committee on Stabilization Affairs involving ministries and other federal agencies.

16- Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hassan Macallin Mohamud participated in a consultation meeting held by Somaliland community to discuss constitutional completion.

17- Minister of Commerce and Industry Mohamud Ahmed Gesod held a consultative meeting with scholars and elders from Sanaag and Bari regions residing in Mogadishu.

18- Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali hosted the Head of the International Red Cross (ICRC) Somalia Office, Antoine Grand.
19- Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Abdirahman Yusuf Omar Al Addala, met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey, Burhanettin Duran, in Ankara.

20- State Minister of Health and Social Care Dr. Maryam Mohamed Hassan Mohamed participated in an event commemorating the 57th anniversary of the establishment of Medina Hospital in Mogadishu.

21- Director of Intelligence (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Cali Sanbaloolshe, visited military and local forces stationed on the frontlines in the Adan Yabal district during ongoing combat operations.

22- Members of the National Electoral Commission and Boundaries arrived in Baidoa, where voter registration will commence.

23- Minister of Defence Ahmed Moalim Fiqi spoke over the phone with the Egyptian Minister of Defense, General Abdel Majiid Saqr, discussing Egyptian troops expected to join the new African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

24- Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Mohamed Omar stated that the political dialogue initiative announced by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will include former leaders and other prominent politicians.

25- Minister of Livestock Hassan Hussein Mohamed participated in the 92nd General Conference of the World Organisation for Animal Health held in Paris, France.

26- The Somali Police arrested Sharif Mohamed Ahmed, accused of killing the late Abdifataha Abdi Osman, a former national football player.

27- Commander of the Somali Army Land Forces, Brig. General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, arrived in Moqokori district in Hiiraan, where the Somali Security Forces are engaged in fierce fighting against the Kharijites Al Shabab.

28- Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali met with the UNMAS Somalia Chief of Mine Action.

29- Minister of Foreign Affiars Abdisalam Abdi Ali received the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, in Mogadishu.

30- Deputy Minister of Interior, Federalism, and Reconciliation, Abdihakim Ashkir has officially opened the Joint Community and Conflict Prevention Conference.

31- Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, participated the conference of parliament speakers of the East African Community.

32- Deputy Minister of Health and Social Care, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bulale, met with the Khaatumo Regional Minister of Health, Dr. Yusuf Saleban.

33- Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Madam Sahra Yusuf Ige, participated in the second round of negotiations between Brazil and Africa on food security, hunger eradication, and rural development.
