Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education, Farah Sheikh Abdukadir has expressed his gratitude to the government of Egypt for their commitment to providing 450 scholarships to Somalia on an annual basis.

“We are very pleased to announce this historic agreement between the governments of Egypt and Somalia to provide educational opportunities to our students,” said Minister Farah. “This is the largest scholarship package that Somalia has received from Egypt and we are extremely grateful for the support and assistance provided to Somali students.”

The agreement signed by Minister Farah and Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ayman Ashour, includes scholarships for various academic and vocational levels at universities in Egypt. Somali students will be treated as Egyptian nationals while studying there. The selection process for the scholarships will be based on merit and exams.

In addition, Minister Farah acknowledged and thanked Egypt’s Minister of Education, Dr. Reda Hegazy, for the ongoing support for education in Somalia, particularly the deployment of Egyptian teachers to schools in the Banadir region and Puntland State.

“We are committed to expanding and improving the education system in Somalia, and this agreement with Egypt is a significant step in that direction,” said Minister Farah. “I would also like to thank Egypt’s Minister of Education, Dr.Reda Hegazy for the ongoing support for education in Somalia, particularly the deployment of Egyptian teachers to schools in the Banadir region and Puntland.”

This agreement comes at a time when the Somali Ministry of Education is working hard to improve the education system in the country, and this move is considered as a milestone in the history of education in Somalia and would have a positive impact on the development of education in the country.
