Denmark Reaffirms “Full and Strong Support” for Somalia’s Sovereignty at UNSC, Emphasizes Territorial Integrity

NEW YORK, United Nations – The Kingdom of Denmark has delivered a resolute message of solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia, formally reaffirming its “full and strong support” for the nation’s unity and sovereignty. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Danish delegation positioned Copenhagen alongside the growing international consensus dedicated to protecting the territorial integrity of the Somali state.

Speaking during the Council’s high-level briefing regarding the situation in the Horn of Africa, the Danish representatives emphasized that upholding Somalia’s territorial integrity is not merely a regional preference but a fundamental obligation under international law. The delegation made it clear that Denmark views the unity of the Federal Republic as essential for maintaining peace and stability in East Africa, rejecting any measures that could lead to fragmentation.

Denmark’s intervention carries significant diplomatic weight, reflecting the unified stance of the Nordic nations in supporting state-building processes that are owned and led by Somalis. By explicitly prioritizing the preservation of Somalia’s national borders, the delegation signaled that development and security partnerships must be anchored in respect for the Federal Government’s sovereignty. The diplomats urged the global community to remain focused on strengthening Somalia’s institutions rather than entertaining divisive agendas.

This clear affirmation at the Security Council reinforces the strong diplomatic ties between Copenhagen and Mogadishu. Denmark, a long-standing partner in Somalia’s development and security sectors, used the platform to ensure that its commitment to a united Somalia remains unambiguous. The statement serves as a reminder that the principles of the UN Charter apply equally to all member states, regardless of external geopolitical pressures.
