Nairobi, (SONNA) – Somali club Dekedaha FC began their CAF campaign with a crucial 1-0 victory over Sudan’s Alzamala Sports Club at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The tightly contested first half ended goalless, with Dekedaha missing key chances. In the second half, captain Aweis Adan Iman, popularly known as Haggio, struck the decisive goal, sparking jubilant celebrations among players and fans.
Large crowds, including members of the Somali diaspora, attended the match. Among them was Ahmed Mohamed Ali who traveled from Ireland. “I am very happy with this victory,” he said, urging the Somali Football Federation to give more attention to Dekedaha’s coach.
Captain Aweys Aadan Iimaan and head coach Abdirahman Hashi Hussein hailed the win as “a historic achievement for the entire Somali nation.”
Dekedaha chairman Yahye Sheikh Nur urged the players to stay focused ahead of the return leg next Saturday. “We need more effort to secure qualification,” he said.
Also, the Director General of Mogadishu Port, Mohamed Cali Nur “Ameriko,” congratulated the team and thanked the Somali community for their strong support. “This is a historic victory for all Somalis. I call on the diaspora to turn up again for the second leg,” he stated, adding that the players will receive rewards he had promised before the game.
