MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Ma’allin Fiqi, conducted an inspection of a special training exercise by the elite Gorgor Commando units of the Somali National Army (SNA). The exercise marked the culmination of the commandos’ intensive training at the TURKSOM Military Academy in Mogadishu, a key institution for modernizing Somalia’s armed forces.
The Minister’s visit included a live demonstration of the soldiers’ tactical skills, showcasing their readiness and high-level training. The photographs provided a glimpse into the rigorous training, with commandos performing simulated rescue and close-quarters combat maneuvers.
During the visit, Minister Fiqi highly commended the Gorgor forces for their dedication and readiness to defend the nation and combat extremist groups. He praised their commitment, highlighting the importance of their specialized training in the ongoing national security campaigns.
The TURKSOM Military Academy, operated by Turkey, plays a central role in strengthening Somalia’s defense capabilities by providing advanced training and equipping its forces. The graduation of these commandos from such a prestigious program demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to building a professional and capable military ready to confront the nation’s security challenges.
