Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has extended his condolences on the passing of Brigadier General Yacquub Mohamed Siyad, former Commander of Danab and TurkSom.
The late Brigadier General was a distinguished leader who played a significant role in rebuilding the Somali National Army. He took part in the 1977 war and was widely known for his expertise in defense and high-level leadership.
He will be remembered for his historic promotion (12 ranks in a single day) and for his role in mentoring and training a new generation of soldiers.
He also pursued studies in Defense and Strategic Studies at the National Defense University of China (2024–2025).
