MOGADISHU (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended the final match of the Banadir Region Districts Cup at Mogadishu Stadium, describing the massive turnout as a clear and powerful sign of the capital’s prevailing peace and security.

Addressing the tens of thousands of spectators who filled the stadium, the President congratulated the two finalist teams, Hoolwadaag and Warsheikh, for their journey to the final. He stated that the tournament had successfully achieved its core objectives of fostering social integration and strengthening the unity of the Somali people.

President Mohamud emphasized that the gathering of such a vast, peaceful crowd in the capital to watch the match serves as a powerful prove that citizens can also participate safely and freely in the upcoming local council elections.

He issued a direct call to the nation’s youth, linking their passion for sport to their civic duty.

“Youth, just as you have come out for this football match, you must come out for the elections that will soon begin in the districts of the Banadir region,” the President declared. “Come out to elect the people who can represent your interests and your localities. You have the opportunity; the decision is in your hands, so choose your leadership.”

At the conclusion of the event, the President extended his special congratulations to the players, coaches, administration, and supporters of the Hoolwadaag district, who emerged as the champions of the cup.

He also commended all participating teams and their fans for demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and fair play throughout the duration of the tournament, which has become a symbol of Mogadishu’s resilience and vibrant public life.
