China Reaffirms “Full and Strong Support” for Somalia’s Sovereignty at UNSC, Vows to Protect Territorial Integrity

NEW YORK, United Nations – The People’s Republic of China has delivered a decisive statement of solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia, reaffirming its “full and strong support” for the nation’s unity and sovereignty. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Chinese delegation positioned itself as a primary defender of Somalia’s territorial integrity amidst rising tensions in the Horn of Africa.

Speaking during the urgent briefing on regional security, Beijing’s representatives emphasized that the preservation of Somalia’s national unity is a non-negotiable principle of international law. The delegation stated that China remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic, warning that any external attempts to fragment the state would violate the fundamental tenets of the UN Charter.

As a permanent member of the Security Council, China’s intervention carries profound diplomatic weight. The delegation made it clear that Beijing opposes any unilateral actions that threaten the sovereignty of established states. This stance aligns with China’s long-standing foreign policy principles, which advocate for the inviolability of borders and non-interference in internal affairs. The diplomats urged the international community to speak with one voice in rejecting separatist agendas that could destabilize East Africa.

The statement reinforces the strategic alignment between Mogadishu and Beijing. By explicitly pledging to protect Somalia’s territorial integrity, China has bolstered the diplomatic firewall surrounding the Federal Government. The delegation concluded by assuring Mogadishu that China will continue to provide unwavering political support at the United Nations, ensuring that Somalia’s path toward stability and complete national reunification remains unobstructed by external geopolitical maneuvering.
