Beijing, January 26, 2024 – In a significant cultural and diplomatic event, His Excellency Mr. Awale Ali Kullane, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to China, attended a special program at the Chinese Archaeological Museum in Beijing on January 25, 2024. The visit, organized by the China-Africa Institute (CAI), highlighted the deepening ties and mutual cultural appreciation between China and Somalia.

The highlight of the visit was a panel discussion held at the Zhongliu Hall. The session, moderated by Prof. Li Xinfeng, Executive President of CAI, focused on diverse topics such as the “Origin of Civilization,” “Housing in China,” “Ubiquitous Harmony and Integration,” and “National Awakening.” Notably, Ambassador Kullane delivered an insightful speech, drawing parallels between the rich histories of China and Africa, and emphasizing the significance of understanding the origin of civilizations.
Ambassador Kullane eloquently traced the historical paths of both China and Africa. He pointed out the profound contributions of these regions to the global tapestry of human civilization, highlighting China’s ancient dynasties and Africa’s diverse cultures and sophisticated societies. He emphasized the importance of the Nile River in Egyptian civilization and noted Somalia’s own rich history, including its ancient civilizations, maritime trade heritage, and the influential Somali city-states and sultanates.
The Ambassador’s speech underscored the interconnectedness of China and Africa throughout history, particularly through the ancient Silk Road, which facilitated the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures. He spoke of the mutual enrichment from these exchanges, exemplified by the flow of Chinese silk, porcelain, and innovations to Africa, and African resources like gold, ivory, and spices to China.
Concluding his speech, Ambassador Kullane called for honoring the spirit of our ancestors by fostering compassion, understanding, and cooperation among all nations. He emphasized the importance of embracing the lessons of the past to create a future that reflects our collective aspirations and the indomitable human spirit.
The event concluded with remarks by Prof. Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, followed by a buffet. The event was well-attended by Chinese media and African journalists, highlighting its significance in the context of China-Africa relations.
