Second Deputy Prime Minister Opens Strategic Communication Forum 2026

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, today officially opened the second edition of the Somali Strategic Communication Forum 2026 (SCF2026), organised by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

H.E. Jibril highlighted the importance of the media in state-building, democracy and national development, noting that Somalia’s media sector has undergone significant changes and made notable progress in recent years.

He pointed to the growth of modern media, improved content production, increased use of social media platforms and the emergence of a new generation of journalists and creative professionals as key developments in the sector.

“Media is an important pillar of state-building, democracy and national development. A free, professional and trusted media provides society with accurate information, strengthens accountability and builds trust between the Government and the people,” H.E. Jibril said.

The Second Deputy Prime Minister commended the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Abdifatah Kasim Mohamud, and the forum’s organising committee, urging participants to ensure that the discussions and ideas generated during the forum lead to practical recommendations and actions that advance Somalia’s media sector.
