MOGADISHU (SONNA) — The Chairperson of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, Dr. Maryam Qasim, delivered a keynote address on Wednesday at the official launch of a new strategic alliance formed by four leading international organizations dedicated to child welfare. The event in Mogadishu marked the formal unification of efforts by World Vision International, Save the Children International, SOS Somalia, and Plan International under the banner of the “Joining Forces Alliance (JFA)”.
In her remarks, Dr. Maryam Qasim emphasized the Commission’s unwavering commitment to the defense and promotion of the rights of Somali children. She asserted that every child is entitled to care, protection, and equal opportunities as fundamental human rights. The Chairperson highlighted that the responsibility for safeguarding these rights is collective, extending beyond individual organizations to include the government, parliament, educational institutions, and every Somali citizen, starting from the household level.
The newly formed coalition aims to amplify the voices of children and advocate for policy reforms that are grounded in child rights principles. Dr. Maryam Qasim welcomed the initiative, noting that the collaboration between these global entities and national bodies is essential for creating a protective environment where Somali children can thrive free from violations and abuse. She concluded by urging all stakeholders to move beyond rhetoric and ensure that the launch of this alliance translates into tangible actions that directly improve the lives of children across the country.
