Mogadishu, SONNA – The Banadir Regional Court has officially started proceedings against seven individuals accused of crimes related to human trafficking, smuggling, and other offenses, as charged by the Office of the Attorney General of Somalia.
The suspects were arrested in various neighborhoods of Mogadishu following an investigation triggered by intelligence received from a website. They are specifically accused of orchestrating the trafficking of young Somalis, 28 of whom tragically drowned in the Indian Ocean last year after being abandoned at sea by their captors.
The Somali government has since repatriated the survivors of the incident, reaffirming its commitment to combating human trafficking and holding those responsible accountable. The trial marks a significant step in ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
