Somali Prime Minister Launches 2026 National Secondary School Examinations

Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Saturday officially inaugurated the 2026 National Secondary School Certificate Examination and marked the conclusion of the Grade 8 national examinations in Mogadishu.
According to the State Minister for Education, Nura Mustafa, a total of 44,136 students are sitting for the examinations across 58 districts and 158 examination centers, mainly located in southern and central regions of Somalia. She wished all candidates success in their examinations.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre stated that the government has made substantial investments in the education sector and has devoted significant effort to securing the future of Somali students and strengthening knowledge and learning at all levels.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the long-term vision of the government and the National Transformation Plan (NTP) place education at the center of national development. He noted that improving the quality of education and modernizing educational systems and legislation are among the government's key priorities.
“Education is not only the path to success; it is also the foundation of modernization and the development of Somalia’s national capacity. It is a strong pillar of our faith, frequently emphasized in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, highlighting the importance of educating our children,” Prime Minister Hamza said.
The Prime Minister encouraged students sitting for this year's national examinations for both middle and secondary schools to strive for excellence and achieve outstanding results. He also commended the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Education, Somali teachers, and school administrations for their dedication to advancing education in the country.
