Acting Speaker of the Parliament Calls for Peace Following Renewed Clashes in Hiraan

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – Acting Speaker of the House of the People and First Deputy Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sadiya Yasin Haji Samatar, has issued an appeal for peace following the renewed clan clashes in parts of the Hiraan region, particularly the conflict between local communities in Jalalaqsi district.
“The tragic fighting that occurred between brotherly communities living in the same area in Jalalaqsi district of Hiraan region is a serious matter that cannot be ignored or met with silence. It undermines peace, social cohesion, and the future of the local population,” the Acting Speaker said.
Sadiya called on traditional elders, religious scholars, community leaders, the Hirshabelle administration, and the wider public to work urgently toward ending the violence and finding a lasting peaceful solution to the dispute.
“As the leadership of the House of the People, we reaffirm our support for every effort aimed at stopping the bloodshed and strengthening peace and brotherhood among the local communities,” she added.
The Acting Speaker concluded by stressing that safeguarding peace and preventing any actions that could trigger further conflict is a collective responsibility, emphasizing that the public interest and peaceful coexistence of communities must take precedence over all other considerations.
