The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has welcomed the Somali Parliament’s adoption of the final Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and its entry into force, describing it as a historic step toward completing the building of Somalia’s state institutions.
Aboul Gheit said the move represents an important milestone in strengthening the country’s constitutional system based on the rule of law, separation of powers, respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, and the affirmation of national unity across its regions.
According to the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, Gamal Roshdy, the adoption of the constitution reflects a comprehensive national process and the continued efforts of the Somali people and their national institutions to enhance political stability, reinforce unity, promote good governance, and support sustainable development.
He also reaffirmed that the Arab League will continue its support and cooperation with the government and parliament of Somalia in areas that enhance security and stability, strengthen democratic institutions, safeguard national unity, and advance development and prosperity for the Somali people, while contributing to peace and stability in the region.
