A significant workshop on public communication kicks off in Mogadisbu

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – A significant workshop organized by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia kicked off in Mogadishu. This three-day event aims to benefit 30 participants from the Media and Public Relations offices of various Federal Government agencies.

Ms. Fartuun Ahmed Hassan, Director of Human Resources and Training at the Ministry, welcomed the officials and staff members from various government agencies attending the workshop. She emphasized the importance of utilizing experts and sharing experiences among participants to enhance future management of media relations and public communications in emergency situations.

Colonel Abdifitah Hassan Adan, the Police Spokesperson who spoke on behalf of the participants, highlighted the timely nature of the workshop. He thanked the Ministry of Information for bringing together experts and government officials to discuss managing media relations during emergencies and the overall coordination of media offices.

Former Foreign Minister and one of the training experts, Ambassador Yusuf Garaad Omar, underscored the significance of strengthening the collaboration among government agencies during emergencies and thoroughly deliberating on the information to be communicated to the media and the public.

Acting Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, and also the Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Abdinasir Hussein Hassan, pointed out that the Ministry organized this workshop to boost the cooperation between government agencies and the coordination of media relations offices during times of crisis. He also expressed gratitude to the United Nations Transition Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) for supporting the workshop.

Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdirahman Yusuf Omar (Al-cadaala), who opened the workshop, stated that its objective is to shape public opinion and media relations during emergencies, ensuring the public receives accurate information that addresses the current situation. He further mentioned that the workshop aims to enhance the collaboration among government agencies’ media relations and guide the public, as cooperation is essential for achieving government goals.

This workshop is part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen the capacity for cooperation and media coordination among government agencies, as well as raising public awareness and guiding public opinion.
