MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (SONNA) — The elite Danab Commando forces of the Somali National Army have successfully executed a series of highly targeted counter-terrorism operations across multiple strategic sectors within the Lower Shabelle region. Operating with high-precision intelligence, the commandos targeted and dismantled active node points used by the Khawaarij extremist group to extract illicit taxes and extort financial resources from local populations and transit vehicles moving through the agricultural corridor.
The tactical offensive was spearheaded by the 161st Battalion of the 16th Brigade, which focused its combat sweep on the key localities of Warmaxan, Tasxiille, Shareey, 10-Buundo, Tabeellaha, and the broader Donka perimeter. Operational commanders leading the ground assault confirmed that the elite units successfully disrupted the defensive lines of the group, forcing their remnants into a disorganized retreat into the interior bushlands. During the sweep, Danab forces completely leveled multiple fortified hideouts, tactical outposts, and illegal tax collection checkpoints that had long paralyzed local economic velocity and threatened the security grid connecting the region to the capital.
The military command emphasized that these operations are part of an ongoing, multi-agency offensive designed to permanently erase the threat of violent extremism from the region.
