MOGADISHU (SONNA) — The Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Türkiye have advanced their bilateral partnership following a high-level diplomatic meeting at the Ministry of Information headquarters in the capital. The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, H.E. Abdifitah Qasim, received the Ambassador of Türkiye to Somalia, H.E. Alper Aktaş, to engineer a comprehensive framework focused on media modernization, institutional capacity building, and cross-cultural exchange programs.
The bilateral negotiations center on establishing structural cooperation between the state broadcasting architectures of both nations. The strategic alignment aims to modernize Somalia’s public information systems by integrating advanced media technologies and launching joint production initiatives with Turkish state media networks. This technical cooperation will provide Somali media professionals with specialized training in investigative journalism, digital archiving, and broadcast engineering, effectively raising the national media output to international benchmarks.
Beyond technical synchronization, the meeting addressed the preservation of cultural heritage and the revitalization of tourism infrastructure along the Somali coastline. Minister Abdifitah Qasim highlighted that the deep-rooted relationship between Mogadishu and Ankara serves as a powerful foundation for expanding economic and social cooperation. Speaking to the press immediately after the closed-door assembly, the Minister stated that the newly agreed parameters will streamline information sharing, combat regional disinformation networks, and promote Somalia’s rich cultural assets to a global audience, reinforcing the state’s sovereignty and developmental narrative.
