Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdifatah Kasim Mohamud, on Sunday conducted a working visit to the Somali National Theatre, where he met with members of the National Theatre troupe, artists, performers, athletes, and ministry staff.
The minister was received by the Director of the National Council for Wisdom and Public Awareness, Osman Abdullahi Guure, who briefed him on the overall condition of the National Theatre, the activities of the national troupe, and ongoing efforts aimed at promoting Somali arts and culture.
During the visit, a welcoming meeting and briefing session was held inside the theatre, bringing together performers, artists, and stage actors who shared updates on the theatre’s current situation, existing challenges, and proposals for strengthening Somalia’s cultural and artistic sector.
Minister Abdifatah Kasim Mohamud praised the important role played by Somalia’s national artists in raising public awareness, promoting peace, preserving Somali culture, and strengthening social unity. He noted that Somali performers have historically played a significant role during various stages of the country’s reconstruction process.
The minister also pledged that the ministry would prioritize the protection of the rights of Somali artists and performers while working toward the rehabilitation and modernization of the National Theatre so it can once again serve as a leading center for Somali culture, literature, and entertainment.
“The National Troupe represents the backbone of our culture and public awareness efforts. The government is committed to protecting their rights and reviving the important role of the National Theatre in Somali society,” the minister said.
The visit was accompanied by the ministry’s Director General and several departmental directors, and forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to strengthen Somali cultural development and restore key national arts and cultural institutions.
