Mogadishu (SONNA) – The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has provided an update on the ongoing vote-counting process following the one-person, one-vote elections for members of the local councils and the South West State House of Representatives held across 13 districts in South West State.
NIEC Chairperson Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan said the process of counting, transmitting, and verifying results from the integrated elections is progressing smoothly and in accordance with the National Elections Law.
“The Commission confirms, in line with Article 61 of the National Elections Law, that the counting of ballots at polling stations was officially completed last night,” Abdikarim said. “Additionally, all procedures stipulated under Article 21 concerning the closure of polling stations and the completion of vote counting were fully finalized.”
The chairperson also confirmed that results from all polling stations have been submitted to the commission, which is currently carrying out its legal mandate to verify and finalize the election outcomes.
