Nairobi, (SONNA) โ The National Communications Authority (NCA) has successfully concluded the first cohort of its Cybersecurity Certification Training Program for the Government staff, marking a significant milestone in strengthening Somalia’s cybersecurity workforce and protecting national digital infrastructure.
The program, conducted from 29 March to 10 May 2026, brought together ICT professionals from 21 government institutions and equipped them with the skills and knowledge required to pursue internationally recognized cybersecurity certifications. The training was delivered through a structured, merit-based pathway across Mogadishu, online platforms, and Nairobi, Kenya.
Speaking at the conclusion of the program, the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, stated: “The successful completion of the first cohort marks an important step toward building a skilled cybersecurity workforce capable of protecting Somalia’s digital systems and Critical Information Infrastructure. The Authority is committed to building on this foundation through subsequent cohorts, ensuring Somalia’s cybersecurity workforce grows in step with our digital ambitions.”
The Director General also commended the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained to strengthen cybersecurity practices within their respective institutions.
The program covered six internationally recognized cybersecurity certifications.
Upon successful completion of the program, 15 participants representing 15 institutions received a Certificate of Completion recognizing the capacity-building milestone achieved through the training.
The program was funded and supported by the World Bank Group through the SCALED-UP Project and facilitated by the AFRALTI. The National Communications Authority will continue to expand cybersecurity capacity-building initiatives, address identified training gaps, and strengthen collaboration with international cybersecurity partners to strengthen national security and safeguard Somaliaโs digital future.
