Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, has ordered residents occupying land belonging to Somali National University to vacate the premises immediately.
The directive was issued during a groundbreaking ceremony for the modernization of the الجامعة, particularly its Gaheyr campus, where the minister emphasized that the land is public property designated for national development and community service.
“The land of the Somali National University is public property. Those residing on it must vacate promptly to allow reconstruction and ensure it benefits the wider community,” the minister stated.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the university, Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud, welcomed the launch of the redevelopment project, describing it as a significant step toward restoring the institution.
He also commended the Ministry of Education for its continued efforts to strengthen the country’s education sector.
“We appreciate the Ministry’s strong commitment to rebuilding and improving the infrastructure of the Somali National University,” he said.
