Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Government o f Somlia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday inaugurated the new headquarters of the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport in Mogadishu, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening maritime infrastructure and boosting economic growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president said the government is prioritizing the modernization of the country’s ports and the development and protection of its maritime sector. He emphasized the importance of enhancing maritime security, safeguarding natural resources, and preserving the marine environment to ensure the sustainable use of Somalia’s vast coastline.
Mohamud noted that the government aims to position the maritime sector as a key driver of economic growth by improving resource management, preventing environmental degradation, and expanding opportunities for trade.
Following the inauguration, the president toured various departments of the new facility, which is expected to improve maritime services, facilitate trade, and strengthen Somalia’s links with international markets. He also commended ministry staff for their efforts in advancing public services and supporting national development.
