Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Officials from the Banadir Regional Administration, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, marked the conclusion of Somalia’s National Tree-Planting Week with a tree-planting event held at Mogadishu City Hall.

The event forms part of ongoing government-led efforts to restore the environment and advance the national “Greener Somalia” initiative, aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainable urban development.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Governor for Public Works of Banadir Region, Abdumajid Dahir Adan, alongside the Secretary General of Banadir Regional Administration, Bilan Bile, and the Director of the Environment and Water Department, Mahad Abdi Farah, highlighted that tree-planting activities were carried out across all districts of Banadir over the past week.

They noted that the initiative reflects a broader strategy to green Mogadishu and improve environmental resilience in the capital.

State Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Ahmed Omar Mohamed, commended the Banadir administration for its active role in the nationwide campaign, emphasizing that such joint efforts demonstrate the Federal Government’s strong commitment to environmental protection and expanding tree-planting initiatives across the country.
