Mogadishu, SONNA — The first meeting of the Joint Committee tasked with guiding the implementation of the Food Security Crisis Preparedness Plan (FSCPP) was held today at the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), marking a key step in strengthening Somalia’s response to drought and food insecurity.
The meeting was chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Kamal Gutale, and brought together senior government officials and international partners. Among those in attendance were the Commissioner of SoDMA, Mahmoud Moalin Abdulle, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations for Somalia, George Conway, as well as representatives from UN agencies including WFP, OCHA, UNICEF, and FAO, the World Bank, the NGO Union, and various Federal Government ministries.
Discussions focused on accelerating the first phase of the FSCPP, a national framework designed to address the worsening drought conditions and rising levels of food insecurity across the country. The committee also reviewed progress on commitments made during the World Bank conference, emphasizing the need to expedite the delivery of pledged assistance.
Participants underscored the critical importance of enhanced coordination between the Federal Government and international partners to ensure an effective and timely response. Priority, they noted, must be given to communities most severely affected by drought conditions.
The meeting reflects Somalia’s continued efforts to strengthen preparedness, improve coordination, and mobilize resources to mitigate the impact of recurring humanitarian crises.
