Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has commended a decade of progress in strengthening the country’s security sector during the closing ceremony of the “Strengthening Somali National Security Architecture” programme.
Speaking at the event in Mogadishu, Minister Fiqi described the programme as a cornerstone in rebuilding Somalia’s national security framework over the past ten years. He highlighted its role in unifying security policies, reinforcing key institutions, and improving the skills and operational readiness of the Somali armed forces and security agencies.
“The programme has made a significant contribution to the establishment and development of our National Security Architecture,” the Minister said, noting that it has helped lay the foundation for a more coordinated and capable security system.
Minister Fiqi also expressed appreciation to the Government of the United Kingdom for its sustained support, particularly in advancing Somalia’s defence and security institutions. He said the partnership demonstrates the UK’s continued commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts to achieve long-term peace and stability.
The high-level event was attended by senior officials, including the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail; the National Security Advisor, Aweys Haji; and the UK Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King.
The conclusion of the programme marks a significant milestone in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its security architecture and build resilient national institutions capable of maintaining peace and safeguarding the country’s future.
