Mogadishu, SONNA — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has announced a 90-day amnesty initiative targeting individuals coerced into extremist groups, offering them a pathway to reintegrate into society and contribute to national development.
The announcement forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to weaken terrorist networks by encouraging defections and promoting reconciliation, particularly among youth who have been forcibly recruited.
“I am announcing peace appeal and a 90-day amnesty for youth [and leadership] members of Al-Shabaab and ISIS,” the President said.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to both national security and social rehabilitation. By prioritizing reintegration, authorities aim to reduce the operational strength of extremist organizations while offering individuals a second chance to rebuild their lives.
