Mumbai, (SONNA) — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to India, Abdullahi Mohamed Odowa, visited Somali citizens detained in India and attended the first court hearing of their case.
Ambassador Odowa, who has been on a working visit to Mumbai in the Maharashtra region of India, met with 44 Somali nationals currently held in prison after being arrested by the Indian Coast Guard in the Indian Ocean.
The Somali nationals had been awaiting trial for a long period. Following diplomatic efforts by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, the first court session was convened, which the ambassador attended.
A second hearing has been scheduled soon, and the ambassador expressed optimism that the detained Somali citizens will regain their freedom.
