Nairobi, (SONNA) — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Republic of Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, paid a courtesy call on Korir Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya, where the two sides held wide-ranging discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and institutional cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The meeting focused on advancing priority areas within the Somalia–Kenya bilateral framework, reflecting the enduring ties and shared aspirations of both nations. Ambassador Abdulle and Dr. Sing’Oei conducted a comprehensive review of matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on the implementation status of outcomes agreed under the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC).
Both sides underscored the importance of ensuring that commitments made within the JCC framework translate into tangible progress and measurable impact for the peoples of Somalia and Kenya. In this regard, discussions highlighted the need for effective follow-through and coordination across relevant institutions.
Special attention was given to the forthcoming mid-term review of the JCC, which is expected to assess achievements to date, address emerging priorities, and accelerate delivery across key sectors of cooperation. The talks also explored practical pathways to expedite the signing of pending Memoranda of Understanding, especially in strategic areas including cooperation in the Blue Economy, trade facilitation and economic integration, as well as the facilitation of people-to-people movement.
The discussions further emphasized the need to align bilateral cooperation with evolving regional and global dynamics. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on issues pertinent to the upcoming East African Community Summit, reaffirming the importance of coordinated positions, deeper regional integration, and strengthened economic cooperation within the region.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Ali Khadar, Counselor, and Abdullahi Siyat, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Nairobi.
