Algiers (SONNA) – The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Moallin Mahmoud, and Algeria’s Minister of Justice, Lotfi Boudjemaa, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Algiers aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of justice and the judiciary.
The agreement is grounded in reinforcing the longstanding fraternal and historical ties between Somalia and Algeria. It focuses on the exchange of expertise and best practices related to judicial reform and the modernization of justice systems and judicial institutions.
Under the MoU, both sides committed to cooperation on the development of legal frameworks and court procedures, the promotion of judicial independence, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights. The agreement seeks to help build an efficient, transparent, and reliable justice system that responds to the needs of citizens in both countries.
Officials from both governments described the agreement as an important step toward deepening bilateral relations and advancing institutional capacity in the justice sector.
