Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has on Wednesday extended his congratulations to the newly elected leadership of the National Independent Human Rights Commission following a transparent election held in Mogadishu.
The President congratulated the newly elected Chairperson, Ms. Maryam Qasim Ahmed, the Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Mohamed Harun, and the Secretary of the Commission, Ms. Fadumo Abdikani Yusuf, who emerged victorious in a credible and fair electoral process.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud noted that the knowledge and experience of the newly elected leadership will play a vital role in realizing Somalia’s vision for the protection and promotion of human rights.
He emphasized the importance of the Commission’s responsibility to focus on safeguarding human rights, strengthening justice, and promoting accountability across the country.
The election of the new leadership of the National Independent Human Rights Commission represents a significant step forward in advancing human rights protection in Somalia. This development comes at a time when Somalia has fully regained its independent mechanism for managing, monitoring, and reporting on human rights issues.
The restoration of this independent framework enables Somalia to fulfill, in a sovereign manner, its national and international obligations related to the promotion and protection of human rights.
