MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Governor of Benadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Mungab), officially cut the ribbon on the newly completed Nasiib Buundo Road in the Shibis district on Wednesday. The inauguration marks a major milestone in the capital’s ongoing urban renewal efforts, delivering a critical infrastructure project that was fully financed by the Local Government of Mogadishu.

During the ceremony, Mayor Mungab highlighted the high quality of the construction, noting that the road was designed to meet modern standards for durability and safety. He expressed pride that the project was 100 percent funded by the municipal budget, demonstrating the administration’s increasing capacity to deliver essential public services and improve the city’s economic infrastructure without relying on external aid. The Mayor commended the Al-Buruuj construction company for their execution of the project, emphasizing that the contract includes strict liability clauses regarding the quality and longevity of the build.

The Nasiib Buundo Road, which connects the Beexani junction to Maanaboolyo, is equipped with advanced solar-powered street lighting to enhance nighttime security and visibility for residents and commuters. The administration revealed that this opening is merely the first step of a broader strategic plan. Work has already commenced on the second phase of the corridor, which will extend from the Boondheere district all the way to the perimeter wall of the National Presidency, effectively creating a seamless arterial route through the heart of the capital.

Addressing the local community, Dr. Mungab urged the residents of Shibis to take ownership of the new asset by maintaining strict sanitation standards. He announced that the regional administration would deploy dedicated cleaning crews to specific sections of the road to ensure its cleanliness is preserved. Looking ahead, the Mayor outlined an ambitious vision for the coming year, declaring that starting in 2026, the majority of Mogadishu’s dirt roads will be transformed into modern asphalt thoroughfares.

Concluding his remarks with a message of national resilience, the Mayor touched upon the current mood in the country, reiterating that Somalia is indivisible. He called for unity and solidarity among the Somali people to protect the nation’s progress and territorial integrity.
