NEW YORK, United Nations – The Russian Federation has formally reaffirmed its strong and unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Russian delegation delivered a clear message of solidarity with Mogadishu, emphasizing that the protection of Somalia’s national borders is a critical imperative for international peace.
Speaking during the urgent open briefing regarding the situation in the Horn of Africa, Moscow’s representatives stressed that the principles of the UN Charter must be respected by all global actors. The delegation highlighted that the unity of the Federal Republic is a fundamental element of regional stability and that any actions undermining this unity are unacceptable. Russia made it clear that it stands against external interference that seeks to fragment established sovereign states.
As a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia’s intervention adds substantial diplomatic weight to the international consensus backing Mogadishu. The delegation emphasized the importance of “protecting Somalia’s territorial integrity,” framing it not just as a local issue but as a matter of upholding international law. This stance aligns with Russia’s broader foreign policy emphasis on state sovereignty and non-intervention in internal affairs.
The statement reinforces the diplomatic shield surrounding the Federal Government of Somalia. By explicitly opposing moves that threaten the nation’s cohesion, Russia has joined other major global powers in isolating attempts to legitimize separatist entities. The delegation concluded by pledging to continue its cooperation with Somalia to ensure its independence and political unity remain intact against geopolitical challenges.
