RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), H.E. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has issued a forceful condemnation regarding the announcement by Israeli occupation forces to recognize the Somaliland region. In an official statement released today, the Secretary General described the move as a “dangerous transgression” of the principles of international law, firmly rejecting any actions that infringe upon the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Albudaiwi emphasized that this recognition constitutes a flagrant violation of the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia. By engaging with the breakaway region as an independent entity, the Israeli authorities are disregarding established international norms that protect the cohesion of nation-states. The GCC chief stressed that the Federal Republic of Somalia remains the sole sovereign authority over all its territories, including the northern regions, and that such external interference is legally void.
The statement reflects the unified position of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states, standing in solidarity with Mogadishu against external maneuvers that threaten its stability. The Secretary General noted that such unilateral measures by the Israeli occupation not only breach legal standards but also risk destabilizing the security architecture of the wider region. He called for strict adherence to international charters that mandate respect for national borders and the non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
In his concluding remarks, H.E. Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC’s support for the Federal Government of Somalia. He urged the international community to reject these separatist overtures and to uphold the sovereignty of Somalia, ensuring that the country’s unity is preserved against diplomatic actions that seek to fragment the state.
