President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Calls for Full Public Participation in Tomorrow’s Historic Mogadishu Elections

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The president addressed to the nation on the eve of the Benadir regional council elections, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has issued a strong call to action for the citizens of the capital. The President urged all registered voters to turn out in large numbers and participate fully in the historic poll scheduled for tomorrow, emphasizing that the vote represents a defining moment for the recovery of Somali statehood.

Addressing the public through a televised broadcast, the Head of State highlighted the profound significance of the December 25th election. He characterized the event as a clear indication of the restoration of governance and the improved security stability of Mogadishu. By holding a direct, one-person, one-vote election, the President noted that the capital is moving away from provisional arrangements and stepping into a new era of democratic legitimacy.

President Mohamud appealed directly to the conscience of the electorate, encouraging every citizen who holds a voter card to exercise their constitutional right without hesitation. He stressed that the power to choose local representatives now rests in the hands of the people, a right that must be utilized to shape the future of their districts. The President described the act of voting not merely as a civic duty but as a celebration of the nation’s resilience and progress.

The President’s message reinforces the narrative that this election is about more than just administrative posts; it is about cementing the democratic foundations of the Federal Republic. He assured the public that the government has taken all necessary measures to secure the capital, allowing citizens to cast their ballots in a peaceful environment. This assurance aligns with the heavy deployment of police forces and the logistical readiness confirmed by the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission earlier in the day.

As Mogadishu prepares to open polling stations across its 16 districts tomorrow morning, the President’s address serves as the final mobilization effort for an event that observers see as a critical benchmark for Somalia’s state-building process.
