Mogadishu (SONNA)-The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi on Monday received her voter registration card in Shingani District, Banadir Region, marking a significant step toward the upcoming Banadir local council elections scheduled for December 25.

Following the registration, the Minister also conducted an inspection visit to voter card collection centers in Hamar-weyne District to assess the ongoing process and observe preparations ahead of the historic elections.

The Minister commended the electoral officials and security personnel for their efforts in ensuring a smooth and transparent voter registration process, while encouraging citizens to actively participate in the elections and exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The upcoming Banadir local council elections represent a historic milestone, taking place 57 years after Somali citizens regained the right to vote. The process is seen as a key step toward strengthening democratic governance, public participation, and accountability at the local government level.

Minister Al-Makhzoumi emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, noting that women, youth, and marginalized groups play a critical role in shaping the country’s democratic future. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Banadir.
