Mogadishu(SONNA)-Somalia has on Wednesday commemorated International Human Rights Day with a national event launched by Deputy Prime Minister II, Jabriil Abdirashid Haji, in the capital Mogadishu.
The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development, highlighted key progress made in strengthening human rights in the country. Achievements presented this year included the restoration of national human rights obligations after nearly 30 years, the enactment of essential human rights legislation, and the establishment of the Independent National Human Rights Commission.
This year’s commemoration also marked the 77th anniversary of the global recognition of Human Rights Day in 1948. Somalia joins 199 countries in observing the day, reaffirming its commitment to advancing and protecting human rights nationwide.
