Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Federal Republic of Somalia has clarified its official position on the Western Sahara issue, stating that any stance attributed to the country outside formal communications is inaccurate. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that Somalia recognizes UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and supports efforts toward a peaceful settlement under United Nations auspices.
The statement called on the parties involved in the conflict to engage in serious and direct negotiations aimed at achieving a final, peaceful, and mutually acceptable solution in line with relevant UN resolutions.
Somalia also voiced strong support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in relaunching the political process. The government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco, based on mutual respect for national unity and sovereignty.
